Everyone in America knows Elvis! Even 30 years after his death there are more Elvis fans now than there were when he was alive. People are still hungry for his music and they love his persona. Elvis Presley is well-known as a performer who rose to the top of the charts swiveling his hips in flashy jump suits and singing classics like " Burning Love," Jailhouse Rock," and "Don't Be Cruel." But Danny wants people to know that there was another side of Elvis few ever witnessed.
Danny Vann’s “Elvis Gospel - The Other Side of Elvis” offers the public a FRESH look at the King of Rock-n-Roll. It’s a journey through the life of Elvis from a “spiritual” perspective. The gospel roots from those early years never faded out for Elvis. He longed to sing (and hear) that good ol’ Southern Gospel. Elvis wanted to perform more gospel music on stage but his management (and the fans) wouldn’t let him. There was something special about the way he made all of his songs come alive – and the general public just loved his music! But, there was also something incredible about the way he embraced his gospel music! In fact, the ONLY Grammy awards he ever won were all for his gospel music.
Now that same love for God and gospel music – Elvis style – comes alive on stage through Danny Vann! The gospel music that came so naturally to Elvis lives on in Danny Vann with the same passion and dynamic presentation. This show has already played to sold-out audiences throughout Michigan – and is now ready to take the national stage.
People are ready for this fresh perspective on Elvis!
"The message that I'm trying to get across here is that there was another side of Elvis," Danny explains. "Away from the glamour and fame, there was a spiritual guy." Danny goes on to explain that of the many songs he recorded and thousands of concerts he presented, Elvis only ever won three Grammy Awards - all for gospel songs others didn't think he should record.
"He was trapped, they wouldn't let him do it," Danny said. "He wanted to sing 'How Great Thou Art.' He wanted to sing these spiritual songs." Danny wants people to see how easy it is to fall into the same pitfalls that Elvis did. "We get trapped in a cycle of fame and fortune," he said. "We're trapped trying to get that brass ring, get that big promotion . . ."
And so Danny Vann has revamped his Elvis show into a new presentation called "The Other Side of Elvis." The new show will begin touring this August, in memory of the thirtieth anniversary of Elvis' death on August 16, 2007.
Danny will sing the songs Elvis cherished including "How Great Thou Art," "He Touched Me," "An American Trilogy," and "Amazing Grace." Halfway through the show, Danny dons a custom-made, Elvis-style jump suit and sings some of Elvis' popular songs including "If I Can Dream" and "The Wonder of You."
"It's not going to be all gospel," Danny says. "Many of Elvis' songs like 'Love Me Tender' aren't specifically religious but the words carry a message of love."
Danny recently presented his new show at his home church in Bay City, Michigan to an enthusiastic full house. Now gearing up for the late summer tour, Danny is putting together a live band, background singers, and a full complement of sound, video and lighting effects to take on the road.
